Nearly 20,000 acres of the best wild pheasant property in South Dakota
Prime Hunting
At
STECKLEY’S WILD DAKOTA OUTFITTERS,
we work hard to maintain the best pheasant
habitat available anywhere in

We keep thousands of acres of southern sloping grasslands that provide ideal nesting conditions for the thousands of hens that live on our lands. Since each hen under normal weather conditions will raise 7-10 chicks to maturity, the population of wild roosters on our property is always one of the very highest in the state. The superb habitat and tremendous natural hatch, allows us to harvest thousands of wild roosters each year.
There is never a shortage of WILD pheasants at STECKLEY'S WILD DAKOTA OUTFITTERS. Most hunting lodges run out of wild pheasants and start releasing thousands of PEN RAISED roosters by the end of the first week of the hunting season. This is due to their lack of appropriate habitat, low number of hunting acres, and too many hunters.
Please see the following website to view just how good our area is.
As you can see, the
pheasant population (over the past 10 years) in the Kimball and
Chamberlain area is 3 times better than the rest of South Dakota.

How Productive is our Land?
We own and operate 1,920 acres, and have hunting
leases on an additional 18,000 acres. Through years of
experience and research, and with the assistance of State Wildlife
Biologists, Natural Resources and Conservation Services, and
Pheasants Forever, we have planted thousands of acres of CRP
grasslands, trees, and food plots and have built strategically
placed watering ponds to build an ecologically balanced network of
wildlife habitat.

The remaining 19,000 plus acres includes over 40 tree groves, thousands of acres of tall native CRP grasses, corn, cane, milo, and weeds. There are too many ponds to count, but they are vital as they allow our birds to get through the hot South Dakota summers.
