Deer Hunting
Because of the wide variety of superb pheasant habitat, large numbers of whitetail deer inhabit our hunting land. Steckley's Wild Dakota Outfitters offers guided South Dakota Whitetail Deer hunting with rifle, archery, or muzzleloader.
Since there are only a limited number of hunts available each year, this is a trophy style hunt. Hunters experienced a very high trophy success rate this past year harvesting 2 deer over 150 P&Y, as well as 4 others over 135 P&Y.
There are a number of Boone and Crocket and Pope & Young whitetails taken from this area each year. The deer in this area not only have genetics for large racks, they also are large bodied deer typically weighing over 225 pounds. Deer hunters this past season typically saw numerous deer each day with an opportunity to harvest a buck most days. This past season (2007), we had 9 hunters harvest 17 deer. Note that South Dakota (Brule County) offers a choice on single or double deer tags to residents and non-residents.
Please note that South Dakota rifle deer hunting is by lottery only. However, because of the high population of deer in this county (Brule County), resident or non-resident licenses do not sell out and are easily attainable. If you want to incorporate a deer hunt while here pheasant hunting with us, the following prices apply. Please keep in mind that we will hunt deer from one-half hour before sunup until approximately 9:00 AM. We will then leave for a 100% wild pheasant hunt. Once the group has their limit of pheasants, we will return to the lodge for a late afternoon deer hunt.

Hunters are responsible for processing and license fees.
These 4 deer were harvested on our ranch in 2006 by Jim, Janie, and daughter Jennie Steckley. Numerous other nice deer were harvested by other clients.
